Ron Osborne

Mark Osborne, the current Managing Director, set up Tiletec in 1991.

Mark’s father, Ron Osborne, had been a tiler since 1947.  Mark started his tiling apprenticeship with his father at the age of 16 in 1982 and, when Ron retired, Mark continued his father’s work and set up Tiletec.

The Osborne family has over 65 years of tiling history to their name, so it was only natural that Mark Osborne followed in his father’s footsteps.

Mark’s aim is to provide the client with a first class delivery on construction projects in the wall and floor tiling industry; in more recent years he has added soft flooring to the list of specialised services.

Ron Osborne was a great believer in apprenticeships; Mark shares this view and has continued to apply the apprenticeship model to Tiletec with the same ethos and high standards as his father. To this day, Tiletec still employ four of Ron’s former apprentices.

Today Tiletec employ a highly trained and qualified workforce consisting of Contract Managers, Site Supervisors, Tilers, Soft Floor Layers and general office staff together with the group of young apprentices who are a crucial addition to Tiletec’s future workforce.

This photo was taken outside the Plummer Roddis department store in Guildford during construction in 1967. The store was opened in 1968, but later that year the building flooded.  In 1972 the store was renamed Debenhams and remains so to this day.  At the time Ron (frontleft) was a Foreman (an old fashioned word for ‘supervisor’) for Carters, who are since defunct.

As you can see from the picture the site is next to the River Wey, which runs through Guildford.  Looking closely at the photo, health and safety clearly wasn’t top of their priorities!!

Julian has over 32 years service within the contract flooring sector having started as a trainee surveyor at the age of 17. He spent the last 22 years at Peter Evans Contract Interiors in South Wales where he obtained the position of managing estimator. Julian brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge in estimation and cost management and has a perspicacious mind for all commercial and operational aspects of the business.

Kris joined Tiletec in February 2016 bringing operational and contractual experience from a specialist sub-contractor as well as previous sales and business development knowledge from a corporate environment. As contracts manager, Kris ensures that effective communication links and good working relationships are maintained between our customers and Tiletec to achieve high standards of project satisfaction.
